Legislation
If you own, occupy, manage or have responsibilities for premises
which may contain asbestos, you will either have:
a legal duty to manage the risk from this material; or
a duty to co-operate with whoever manages that risk.
A good strategy to manage these materials will help you prevent risk to workers or others who may use the premises.

What is new about the duty to manage asbestos?
If you are an employer, you already have a legal duty to prevent the exposure of your employees to asbestos, or if this is not possible to reduce it to the lowest possible level. In the future, a new duty to manage asbestos will be added to the Control of Asbestos at Work
Regulations. This will require you to manage the risk from asbestos by having an asbestos survey carried out and an effective management plan in place. |
